Andy McEwan was a committed trade unionist who displayed a keen understanding of the issues and empathy for all of those involved. He exemplified the way in which it is possible to be robust and firm in dealings with management, but also focus relentlessly on the resolution of the problem. Tragically, Andy took his own life in 2012, which deeply shocked his colleagues and trade union comrades. It is for this reason that we as a union would like to celebrate Andy’s life and the example of his union practice with a yearly lecture.
This year’s lecture will be given by Rich Jones (Senior Adviser/Collective Conciliator, ACAS) on the topic of workplace bullying.
Rich is a Fellow of the CIPD, and a visiting lecturer at Leeds University. Rich has over 30 years public sector experience and has worked as both a Trade Union official and HR Manager in various parts of the UK.
The lecture is followed by drinks and nibbles to celebrate Andy’s life.
