In Spring 2026, Sheffield Hallam University announced proposals for approximately £26 million in cuts to be achieved through major contractual changes, the introduction of a wholly owned subsidiary company, changes to pensions, and a raft of job cuts and the threat of compulsory redundancies (in some areas, a proposed cull of 1 in 4 or 1 in 3 Grade 8 academics). This follows earlier rounds of major cuts in 2024 and 2025, including the loss of 1000 colleagues. Sheffield Hallam University is being driven into a cycle of decline.
