SHU UCU branch are taking are taking strike action for 8 working days from Wednesday 20th to Friday 29th of September, 2023.
The first three days of action are in relation to 100% pay deductions the employer has threatened to make in relation to the summer’s Marking and Assessment Boycott, which is a much higher rate of deduction than threatened by many other universities.
The final five days are in relation to the union’s wider pay and conditions dispute, and chiefly the more than 25% erosion in our pay since 2009, which is impacting staff more than ever during this current cost-of-living crisis.
The union obviously regrets the impact our action has on students, especially at this time of year, but we have attempted to negotiate a resolution with management that would avert at least the first 3 days of this action, unfortunately to no avail.
